Lead Database Administrator (PostgreSQL & MySQL)

Ensure maximum reliability, high performance, sharding, and automated failover for multi-terabyte enterprise databases.

Role Overview & Mission

As Lead Database Administrator in Chennai, you will safeguard the performance, integrity, and availability of our high-volume production databases. You will configure automated replication, design multi-region failover topologies on AWS Aurora, fine-tune query execution plans, and enforce rigorous database security.

Primary Tech Stack & Tools

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

• Manage, monitor, and optimize production PostgreSQL and MySQL database clusters.
• Implement automated backup, point-in-time recovery (PITR), and disaster recovery drills.
• Analyze query execution plans (EXPLAIN ANALYZE), index usage, locks, and buffer cache efficiency.
• Design database partitioning, horizontal sharding, and read-replica distribution strategies.
• Enforce encryption, database access controls, auditing, and compliance with data privacy regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 5+ years of dedicated database administration experience in production enterprise environments.
• Deep internal knowledge of PostgreSQL (MVCC, WAL, connection pooling with PgBouncer) and MySQL (InnoDB engine).
• Experience managing cloud-managed databases on AWS RDS, Aurora, or Cloud SQL.
• Proficiency in Bash and Python for database automation and alerting scripts.
• Solid understanding of high-availability clustering (Patroni, Pacemaker, or Galera).

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Bonus Skills

• Experience with NoSQL datastores (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra).
• Database performance monitoring with Datadog or PMM (Percona Monitoring and Management).
